UNDULATING WALL

UNDULATING WALL
The cocoon lamp is a simple and elegant idea for a pendant or a stand lamp. The lamp consists of a 3mm interlocked acrylic structure. The edges of this structure are equipped with teeth so that twine, string, or any rope-like material can be wrapped around it in a pattern defined by the user. The result would be a weave shell that envelopes the structure resembling a cocoon. The denser the weave the more light is diffused and the dimmer the lamp becomes. The weave can be different colours and patterns. The light bulb can also be a variety of colours, that when mixed with the colours of the weave will have different effects. the mechanization of a series of modular arms cut a section into a narrow passageway creating a constant compression and expansion of the amount of interpersonal space available for all those experiencing the installation.  the sections are repeated along the length of the wall to create an all encompassing experience such that unique patterns of how the space is modified can be generated as one walks the length of the installation  as the space becomes more crowded with participants, the movement of the arms has greater impact on the amount of interpersonal space.  as the modular arms push into what was occupiable space, public distance becomes social distance, social distance becomes personal distance, and personal distance becomes intimate distance.
